- Narlikar’s father was the head of the mathematics department at BHU(Banaras Hindu University), who later became the Chairman of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission.
- His mother was a Sanskrit graduate from Bombay University. She also loved English literature. V. S. Huzurbazar, a well-known statistician, was Narlikar’s maternal uncle.
