    Latrell Sprewell is an American former professional basketball player who played 14 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was a four-time NBA All-Star and won an NBA championship in 1999 with the San Antonio Spurs. He is also known for his incident with then-Golden State Warriors’ coach P.J. Carlesimo, and for the subsequent suspension of his contract.     Early Life

    Latrell Sprewell was born on September 8, 1970 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was raised in a single-parent household by his mother, Janet Sprewell. He attended Washington High School in Milwaukee and led the team to the state championship game. He was also selected for the McDonald’s All-American team in 1988. After high school, Sprewell attended the University of Alabama for one year before declaring for the NBA Draft.

    Professional Career

    Sprewell was selected by the Golden State Warriors with the 24th overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft. He quickly made an impact, averaging 15.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists in his rookie season. He was named to the All-Rookie Second Team and finished fourth in the Rookie of the Year voting. After three successful seasons with the Warriors, he was traded to the New York Knicks in 1995. He was named an All-Star for the first time in 1997 and was a key member of the Knicks team that made it to the 1999 NBA Finals.

    Sprewell married Candace Cabbil in 1997 and they have four children together. He also has a son from a previous relationship. Sprewell is currently single.
